Current and Recent Film Projects

🍒 Life Is Just a Bowl of Cherries

Our most ambitious collaborative production to date, Life Is Just a Bowl of Cherries is a six-part British comedy-drama developed through Colchester Film Makers. With a large volunteer cast and crew, original music and production spanning numerous locations and roles, the project demonstrates what can happen when writers, performers and film makers bring their skills together.

✈️ Aircraft Two

Aircraft Two is a feature-length British comedy following airline pilot John Chance as he attempts to complete the final destination on his bucket list — Cairo.

Unfortunately, the newly built aircraft has been rushed into service before its safety checks are complete, and what should be one final straightforward flight rapidly descends into chaos. With low fuel, an unpredictable crew and passengers, and the possibility of a ticking bomb on board, John’s dream trip becomes a decidedly unconventional fight to reach his destination.

Created by Henryk Jachimczyk and John Simpson, the 2022 production brought together Colchester Film Makers members both in front of and behind the camera. The finished feature went on to reach a wider audience through Prime Video, demonstrating just how far an idea developed through the club can travel.

🎬 Colchester in the 2020s

An evolving documentary YouTube series capturing people, ideas and stories within modern Colchester. The project began with Carrie Ransom's first episode and has continued to develop, with Colchester Film Makers recently helping to create the first animation for the series.

🎬 Beyond the Club

Our members also use their skills to support organisations, performers and community projects beyond our regular club productions. Recent work has included filming for Witham Operatic Society, creative projects within schools and recording talks for the FCIBSE Fellows Network in London. After filming two Fellows Network events last season, Colchester Film Makers has been invited back to record two further events later this year.

These projects give members valuable experience of working to different briefs, locations and production requirements while using film to benefit, educate and entertain wider audiences.

Since 1959, members of Colchester Film Makers have captured changing life in and around the city. Our archive now spans 67 years and includes local events, community activities, people and places, creating a moving record of Colchester across generations.
